MicroWorld - Banbra Virus Captures Mouse Clicks and Screenshots - 18 March 2006

Security experts at MicroWorld Technologies, inform that a new keylogging Trojan comes with the capacity to capture even mouse clicks to steal financial and other confidential information.

A new variant of ‘Trojan-Spy.Win32.Banbra.bd’, also known as ‘PWSteal.Bancos.Q’, is a Trojan that captures complete information on the computer screen as well as mouse clicks to make it quiet an advancement in identity theft.

Banbra Trojan is primarily aimed at banks like ‘Westpac’ who recently introduced virtual keyboards to tackle the menace of normal keyboards being attacked continuously by Keyloggers. Now, by trailing your mouse clicks, the monkey is right on your back, prying on every single activity on your computer, all time.

This breed of Trojan can be devastating, if used during the current season of Tax returns, to steal personal information from unsuspecting tax payers, especially in United States. The IRS Tax Refund Phishing scam and keylogger attacks on tax payers, that took place last year, are ominous of this Trojan’s use in newer avenues.

“This development indicates that Virus writers are keen to match strides with innovations in technology. If one thought that by introducing virtual keyboards you can eliminate keylogging threats, this one just goes to prove that they too are evolving really fast,” observes Govind Rammurthy, CEO, MicroWorld Technologies.

The recent incidents like Brazilian keylogger attack on major banks and robbery of French bank accounts by Russian hackers, show that worms and Trojans are the best buddies of these gangs. While it’s a basic necessity to have an AntiVirus software on computers, users would well be advised to check how the system reacts to new and emerging threats. If your protection is not effective in fast discovery of new viruses, if it does not provide you a proactive defense or if it fails to shield you from future viruses, then you are leaving your financial information hugely vulnerable to online thugs.

As Govind Rammurthy puts it, “We at MicroWorld believe in pre-emptive strike. Right from our MWL Technology that cleans objects without writing them to temporary folders, our solutions believe in leaving nothing to chance. At the end of the day, what’s at stake is someone’s life long savings. You need to live up to that trust for what ever it takes!”
