MicroWorld - This Trojan talks about missiles, comes like a storm! - 22 Jan 2007

A killer at 11, he's free at 21 and kill again!, Chinese missile shot down USA aircraft, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has kicked German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Muslims Genocide, 230 dead as storm batters Europe, and finally, 'Saddam Hussein alive'!

These are some of the subject lines of an ongoing Trojan spam campaign that was shot off like a missile and is spreading like a storm across the world at present. Most of the email subject lines are inspired by the current international socio-political events, though the figment of the author’s(s) imagination is stretched too far in most cases!

Security experts at MicroWorld Technologies says the Trojan Downloader named Win32.Agent.bet rides on a mass mailing campaign with smart titles and carries attachments like FullClip.exe, Full Story.exe, Video.exe and Read More.exe.

“This is clever malware proliferation as the people behind this campaign knows it well that shock is perhaps the best way to momentarily freeze one’s rational thinking and get him or her to do what they want,” points out Sunil Kripalani, Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing, MicroWorld Technologies. “You can see that the subject lines of most of these mails are written well and it simply adds to their conviction powers!”

Win32.Agent.bet is a Trojan Downloader with Backdoor capabilities and peer-to-peer communication possibilities. The Trojan can log on to predefined websites in order to download possible malicious code into the victim’s computer while it also opens some UDP ports to communicate with the peers. A component named WINCOM32.SYS of Win32.Agent.bet has rootkit capabilities and helps it avoid detection by security software in some cases.

MicroWorld Technologies offers comprehensive protection against all kinds of Virus, Trojan, Worm and other malwares with its security solutions MailScan and eScan. MailScan 5, the newly launched version of the AntiVirus, AntiSpam and Content Security software employs some futuristic technologies in Virus Protection and Spam Filtering.

“Malware attacks like these are best protected at the email Gateway level, by not letting the malicious code enter into the Mail Servers. With MWL technology, we make sure that the mailing systems are given the most external, enclosing and proactive protection from all angles. Club that with our multilayered Spam Filtering and you’ve got the safest Security System, guarding your organizations email infrastructure round the clock,” says Govind Rammurthy, CEO of MicroWorld Technologies.
