and tickets to the World Cup finals in Germany, beware,
it’s a keylogger in disguise!
Security analysts at MicroWorld
Technologies inform that this new phishing mail
spoofing MasterCard, comes with a hidden keylogger
to target football aficionados ahead of the FIFA World
Cup 2006 to be held in Germany.
Unlike the regular phishing mail, this one comes
with a twist. The regular ones carry a link to click
on, which subsequently opens up an imposter website
of a reputed bank, an online auction website, or even
a government website. The perfectly imitated site
offers you a form to fill in. It will ask for your
credit card numbers, username and passwords. Once
you key in the information it gets mailed to the hacker
sitting in a remote place and you know the rest.
This one is different. Here too, victims of the infected
mail are told to click on a certain link to claim
the prize. No sooner than you click on the link, a
Keylogger infiltrates into your computer silently.
The webpage that opens up from the link, does not
have a form to be filled! Instead, when ever you try
to access few of the legitimate bank websites targeted
by this key logger, it will smartly redirect your
browser to a fake website. That means, after you key
in the true website address of the bank in your browser,
it takes you to the fraudulent website and the keylogger
captures the information.
